Hinterlands Film Festival 2022

Hinterlands Film Festival returns to Skipton 13 - 15 May with a stunning line-up of inspirational screenings and events, celebrating rural stories and landscapes from around the world.

For this year's festival, we've got dream-pop trio Haiku Salut performing a live score to Buster Keaton's silent classic The General, an evening of Syrian food and music with acclaimed oud player Rihab Azar, and a screening of the heart-rending drama about migrants stranded in remote Scotland, Limbo.

Our line-up also includes Robert Eggers' epic The Northman, witty queer romance Sweetheart, Croatian 'sunshine noir' Murina, Disney's 1940 classic Pinocchio, and a dog-friendly screening, where we’ll be showing Italian documentary film The Truffle Hunters.

We'll also be showing Ukrainian film The Guide, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Award-winning film-maker Maia Media will introduce her adventure documentary Wood On Water - and actor Julie Hesmondhalgh will talk about her favourite rural film, Wild. We've also got Chumbawumba star turned writer Boff Whalley to introduce The Wild Tour premiere, which chronicles his outdoor touring and performing from Devon to Dartmouth - and a discussion with musician Sarah Smout about her new film, Rooted.

Watch out for the brilliant walkabout performers Kitsch & Sync Collective, and get hands-on with a puppet-making workshop with Lempen Puppet Theatre Company. And last but certainly not least, don’t forget the iconic Hinterlands film quiz!
All screenings and events are taking place at Skipton Plaza Cinema and Skipton Town Hall. The quiz will be at the Narrow Boat pub. Check Hinterlands website for individual film screening times.
