Ensemble East Spring Concert

Mendelssohn Melusine Overture
Haydn Symphony No 49 ‘La Passione’
Beethoven Symphony No 7

Conductor: Philip Hesketh
Guest Leader: Kathryn Parry

In April 2020, Ensemble East arranged a concert at Aylsham Church to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. They chose two symphonies that are judged to be two of the best classical works ever written. It was hugely disappointing for everyone that the Covid Pandemic prevented this concert from taking place at the time.

So it’s a great pleasure to announce that this concert will take place on Sunday 1st May 2022. Perhaps you could call this an Unlock Concert! It would be hard to exaggerate the effect on musicians of depriving them of playing opportunities for two years; it is very exciting to be back playing in front of such a supportive audience. Hopefully the first of many.

Philip Hesketh, a well-known conductor throughout the UK and abroad, will be conducting the orchestra this year and the guest leader for this concert is Kathryn Parry, a member of the celebrated Brook Street Band and of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Join Ensemble East as they unlock and belatedly celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday with two of the finest classical symphonies ever written.
