The Music of the Coronation

The concert will be a joyous celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen.
Joined by friends from other choirs in the area, Saint James's Singers will perform all of the choral music from the 1953 Coronation Service. The music is rich and varied - from regal splendour to spine-tinglingly peaceful, blending to form a wonderful harmonious whole. It includes many much-loved pieces, including Parry’s anthem I was glad, Stanford’s Gloria in Excelsis, Handel’s Zadok the Priest and works by Walton, Orlando Gibbons, William Byrd and Vaughan Williams. There will be some pieces written especially for the Coronation which have rarely been heard since. The audience will also be able to join in with Vaughan Williams’ wonderful arrangement of the hymn, All people that on earth to dwell, and the concluding rendition of the National Anthem.

The singers will be led by their charismatic director, Julian Harris and accompanied by the organ maestro Charles Matthews.
The concert begins at 7.30 and will last approximately 2 hours.

Tickets at £10, £12.50 and £17.50 are available from the Saint James’s Singer box office on 07359 114362
