Gunwharf Quays Hosts Sea Angling Classic

To kickstart the event in June, the parade will start its journey at Guildhall Square on Wednesday 15th June. The parade activities will begin at 5:30pm with the NTC marching band, flag waving and the Portsmouth Grammar School Music Band. Commencing the event from 6pm will be the Master of Ceremonies and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, both addressing the audience with an opening speech. The parade will then begin its journey to Gunwharf Quays from 6:30pm, followed by a VIP drinks reception at The Spinnaker Tower.

The waterfront shopping outlet will be a hive of activity over the five-days, including a fantastic boat parade from the forts in the Solent to Portsmouth Harbour on Thursday 16th June. For the best vantage point to watch the boat parade, The Spinnaker Tower welcomes visitors to head up to their panoramic viewing platform.

The Sea Angling competition will commence on the Solent’s designated fishing grounds on Friday 17th June. The winner will be announced at the prize giving ceremony at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyards on Sunday 19th June, which will be open to the public from 9:30am. The winner will also receive a unique trophy designed by the Historic Dockyard apprentices and BAE Systems which will include oak from HMS Victory and artifacts from HMS Warrior. The prizegiving ceremony will also be broadcasted live in collaboration with Express FM.

Yvonne Clay, Centre Director of Gunwharf Quays, said: “We are delighted to host the biggest angling event in UK history at our waterfront outlet. The dynamic fishing competition is a great way to showcase the diverse fishing grounds of The Solent, which will provide a variety of catches for the anglers. For those that wish to take a break from angling we offer, as always, our fabulous range of outlet shopping, leisure and picturesque waterfront options.”
