Shawbury Village Players present 'The Merry Wives of Windsor'

The Merry Wives of Windsor is a farcical comedy that features Sir John Falstaff and is a story of jealousy, marriage and lies. It is still as much fun to modern audiences as it was back in Shakespeare’s time.
Falstaff, a bit of a ladies man, is down on his luck with serious cash flow problems, and he comes to Windsor to conspire to seduce Mrs. Page and Mrs. Ford, the wives of two prominent Windsor citizens, who both have control over their husbands money.

They decide to teach him a lesson and devise a plan to do just that. They lead him on, just long enough to humiliate him. So Falstaff eventually gets his ‘comeuppance’ which is somewhat satisfying in todays ‘me too’ society!

Shakespeare wrote this play to meet a request from Queen Elizabeth the First, who’s favourite character was Falstaff.
