Audacious Mr Astley - the man who invented circuses!

Audacious Mr Astley - the man who invented circuses!

Meet the man who invented circuses! Partnered by his wife Patty, Sgt-Major Philip Astley, 'late of His Majesty's Royal Regiment of Light Dragoons', set out a circular arena in London in 1768 and gave displays of trick-riding and sword-play. The couple added acrobats and rope-walkers, and the circus was born! Hear the fascinating story from the man himself! Actor Chris Barltrop wrote the play himself. He grew up in Saffron Walden, and works as a professional ringmaster. The play lasts 45 minutes, and is carefully researched to the last detail. Five Stars at the Edinburgh Fringe; 'fascinating' (British Theatre Guide 5*) ; 'entertaining...classy!' (Widow Stanton 5*)
