Swallows Rest - Open Garden for NGS
This unusual seaside garden emerged from the year 2000, a gradual process with beds being excavated from a field on this former dairy farm and formed with a small digger. Limey topsoil was brought in to neutralise the heavy clay soil. All the trees and hedges were planted as small saplings. Due to the extremely high winds and salty sea air, it was necessary to form wind breaks otherwise plants would not have grown. The garden is now packed with a vast array of trees, shrubs, roses and perennials, some of which were obtained from the Dorset Perennial Group where Keith, the owner, was a committee member. The gardens charm is enhanced with scores of free-range ducks, chickens bantams and geese.
