Writers in Trees with Jack Cooke

Writers in Trees draws on the intrinsic connection between trees and books to create a unique experience with the potential to create lasting change for its participants. There is increasing evidence - including from the World Health Organization - of the benefits of contact with nature for physical and mental health. Likewise, reading has immense health benefits: British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy studies found that 30 minutes lowered blood pressure, heart rate and psychological distress as effectively as yoga.
About the Event
Before the tree-climb, author Jack Cooke will host a Zoom event with the participants to meet everyone and talk about the pieces of writing they will bring to or write for the event. On the day, six sessions will be open, each involving 3 participants. Those taking part will be fitted with a harness and helmet, receive a health and safety briefing and visual demonstration, before being supported to ascend the tree by Leaf Adventures staff.
Once everyone is comfortable, participants and Jack will each deliver their short extract of writing (500 words), before a descent from the tree fully controlled by an instructor. Participants will receive a free signed Jack Cooke book and a free drink in Wolverton House.
Places at the event are fully funded (and therefore FREE to participants) and MK Lit Fest are looking to reach out through local organisations for example, Offset projects and MK Christian Foundation, to identify young writers who have struggled with mainstream education and/or their mental health, particularly during lockdown, and who might benefit most from access to a best-selling author and the tree-climbing experience.
