Ely Consort - The Italian Grand Tour
Postponed from Sat.2July due to a covid outbreak in the choir.
Come and hear the renowned local chamber choir Ely Consort in Sutton Church as they take you on a musical Italian Grand Tour. Taking inspiration from the eighteenth and nineteenth century custom which saw the noble youth of Europe explore the cultural riches of Italy, the concert includes some of the best Italian choral music, including extracts from Verdi’s Requiem and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. There will be some operatic highlights including the Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and the Triumphal Scene from Verdi’s Aida, alongside settings of poetry by Byron and Shelley, who both undertook the Grand Tour. We are particularly excited to be joined by a star soloist - operatic tenor Charne Rochford, www.operabase.com/artists/charne-rochford-24012/en - who will sing a number of well-loved opera arias, including ‘O sole mio’ and ‘Nessun dorma’ - hear a taster! www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPVmWaky2CI.
