Positive Money Tower Hamlets & Hackney: Cost of Living Meeting
This is a meeting of the Positive Money local campaign group for Tower Hamlets & Hackney in London.
We will review the soaring Cost of Living:
From April 2021 to April 2022:
Overall consumer prices (CPI): up 9%. Highest since 1982.
Domestic gas prices up 95% (almost doubled). Will increase again in October.
Domestic electricity prices up 54%. Also will increase again in October.
Petrol prices currently up 46% since April 2021.
Bank of England forecasted inflation would be 10% by end of 2022.
Bank of England has raised bank rate to 1.25%. Highest for 13 years.
What can be done about it?
Our meeting on 13 July will explain why the Western money system has created a system that has already caused people on low incomes to get poorer, and has made the economy disastrously vulnerable to adverse world events such as Covid-19 and Russia invading Ukraine.
The main part of the meeting will be a talk by Ripon Ray (www.yourdoctordebt.com) about what is being done, the financial supports that are available, how people can reduce the impact on their finances, and a campaign to organise to prevent disconnection of people's fuel supply.
