A Summer Musical Celebration.

A Summer Musical Celebration.

Thank goodness for Music: more important than ever over the last few years! In March this year, John Rutter wrote his ‘Ukrainian Prayer’ as his way to respond to the tragic events in that country: “Give us strength, faith and hope”. The South London Singers will include a performance of this beautiful, peaceful work in their Summer Musical Celebration. The choir is coming to the end of its 40th year in existence and has chosen items looking back at some favourites and including items suitable for a celebration of both that and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Included along with the Rutter are selections from Finzi’s ‘Seven Poems of Robert Bridges’ and Chilcott’s ‘Aesop’s Fables’. Celebrating Vaughan Williams’ 150th anniversary, the choir will sing his ‘O Taste and See and Linden Lee, Parry’s ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’ and Purcell’s ‘If Music be the Food of Love’. The conductor will be Nicholas Wibberley. There will also be two organ pieces performed by our organ soloist Jack Stone.
This should prove an entertaining and joyful evening.
Start time 7.45 pm Saturday 9th July
