Archipelago plus Immy Churchill

Very original, evocative, and at times haunting’ - Kevin Le Gendre, BBC Radio 3

Archipelago are a genre-defying trio of adventurous musicians, formed out of the North East of England’s creative musical underground. Fronted by saxophonist, clarinetist, singer and composer Faye MacCalman and completed by John Pope (Bass) and Christian Alderson (Drums); their sound is a dreamlike collision of otherworldly atmospheres, heartfelt song-writing and energetic off-kilter rhythms. Moving between instruments and effects to create the illusion of a much larger ensemble, before peeling back to their raw, improvisational trio form, Archipelago’s uncompromising refusal to fit in one genre makes for a fully-charged musical experience.

With influences stretching from Joni Mitchell to Don Cherry to Esperanza Spalding, Archipelago draw on a deep pool of sonic references and the diversity of their individual musical histories.

“compelling stuff, particularly on the sections where all hell lets loose!.” - Bebop Spoken Here

Echoes To The Sky was selected as one of the best albums of 2021 by Jazzwise Magazine and Archipelago were nominated for UK Jazz Act of the year in the 2021 Jazz FM Awards, and selected by Gilles Peterson for his Worldwide FM show on a UK Jazz special, further cementing their growing reputation as an unmissable live act.

“**** Superb...epically adventurous... An impressive unity of vision” - Jazzwise

Immy Churchill is a jazz singer and singer-songwriter studying at The Royal Academy Of Music. Her influences range from Ella Fitzgerald and Norma Winstone to James Taylor and Joni Mitchell, giving her a unique sound that embraces not only the lyrical quality of singing but the joys of singing wordlessly.
