Will have an extra meeting later this year (current monthly programme is full),

Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub

Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub continues with its series of monthly public meetings. Anyone is welcome to attend and enjoy an informative talk by an expert, ask questions, and join in the discussion. while enjoying their favourite beverage. At our July meeting, founder of the Science Media Centre, Fiona Fox, will give a presentation based on her recent book 'Beyond the Hype: The inside story of science's biggest controversies.' In her book, Fiona shines a light on the truth behind some of the headline-grabbing stories of the last two decades. From global emergencies like Covid-19 and Fukushima to the shaming of Tim Hunt, she reveals the highs and lows of each media controversy and shows us how more scientists engaging openly has transformed the way science is reported. But, Fiona argues, not everything has moved in the right direction. Signed copies of Fiona's book will be on sale at the meeting.
Monday July 18 at 7.30 pm. Just turn up. No booking or entrance fee is required, but a donation of £3 is welcome to cover the speaker's expenses and room hire.
