Heritage Open Day at Canons Ashby

On 10 - 11 September, visit the medieval church and enjoy recorded music to transport you to the magic, mythical knights and kings of Camelot. Take a pew, close your eyes, and listen to the music bouncing around the historic high ceilings of this beautiful space. And whilst you’re there, admire the Harvest decorations throughout the church this September.

The semi-opera King Arthur was composed by Henry Purcell with the words written by John Dryden and had its premiere in London in 1691. Dryden was the first poet laureate and a close relation of the Dryden family who lived at Canons Ashby in 17th century.

Spark your imagination with the semi-opera which is also the inspiration for our Christmas display this year (from 1st December 2022).
This event is free to enter as part of Heritage Open Days on 10 and 11 September 2022, but please still park in the main visitor car park and go through visitor reception.
