History of the English Longbow

How did the English Longbow become such a legendary weapon? What is the story of the Longbow and its impact upon society?

Starting at 12 midday, you can take part in an activity session with replicas of the English Longbow and arrows from around 1400.

You can also discover how the Longbow was loaded and shot – this session lasts about an hour. After a break of about another hour, enjoy a multimedia talk with video and images which reveal the history of the Longbow from earliest times to the golden age which ended about 1500. The impact of the bow on language and society will be explored. We will also find out about the key archaeological discoveries from the Mary Rose which sank in 1545.

This is part of a series entitled ‘Our Story’.
