Sharpe’s Rifles

The 95th Rifles, made famous by Bernard Cornwell’s books and the Sharpe TV Series.
Come and find out about their amazing true story.

Starting at 12 midday, take part in an activity session with replicas of the famous Baker Rifle and 95th Rifleman’s kit from around 1809. You can also discover how the rifle was loaded and fired – this session lasts about an hour. After a break of about another hour, enjoy a multimedia talk with video, music and images which explores different aspects of the Sharpe story. After an initial look at the fictional hero, Richard Sharpe, we will see how research has changed some of the ideas and how the 95th Rifles revolutionised the warfare of the time, with a focus on fighting Napoleon’s armies in Portugal and Spain and ending at Waterloo in 1815.

This is part of a series entitled ‘Our Story’.
