Introduction to Sewing with a Sewing Machine

This is for you if you have never used a sewing machine but always wanted to learn or it’s been too long and you feel a bit rusty.

You will learn the basic skills of using a sewing machine and complete a simple project, making a tote bag, to take home with you.

In this workshop you will:

Thread up a sewing machine
Wind on a bobbin
Understand stitch tension, length and width
Learn different stitches
Sew straight lines, corners and curves using a seam allowance
Cut from a pattern template, grain line, markings on a pattern
Do iron / pressing
Learn hemming

Materials: All tools and materials are provided in class. The sewing pattern and instructions will also be available for you so you can continue making more at home!

What do bring: You can bring your own fabric with you if you want (preferably cotton or cotton canvas) but there will be a small selection to choose from at the class which you can purchase at a low cost.

You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you’d prefer to use it, or haven’t used it in a while and would like a refresher from someone who uses a sewing machine every day!

You will be learning to sew with Katri of KatriK Design, a designer and upcycling artist, who is a resident artist here at Anteros.
