Introduction to Garment Sewing
Create a simple top and skirt with invisible zip during our 5 week sewing course with designer and upcycling artist KatriK Design. This course is ideal if you completed our Introduction to Sewing with a Sewing Machine class, or already know how to use a sewing machine and are able to finish simple projects.
In class you will cover the following techniques:
Understand commercial patterns and their notations (darts, notches etc.)
How to choose the right size to cut
Pattern lay plans & straight of grain
Marking & cutting the fabric
Different ways to finish seams
Tips and techniques on garment construction
Inserting an invisible zip
Hemming
Materials: Patterns and other materials are included but you need to bring your own fabric. Preferably soft cotton, cotton poplin, shirt fabric, linen or printed cotton.
You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you’d prefer to use it, or haven’t used it in a while and would like a refresher from someone who uses a sewing machine every day!
