Heritage Open Day: Chedham's Yard is a well preserved example of traditional craft at the heart of the agricultural economy of centuries past. See how one of the world's greatest inventions - the wheel - was crafted from wood, metal, fire and water. See our 'time-capsule' workshops - where 5 generations of the Chedham family worked for over 150 years. Take a fascinating volunteer-led guided tour (or audio tour) and discover a vanished rural way of life and have a go at putting together a cartwheel for yourself. In our new Visitor Centre - watch two short films about the history of the Yard - with footage of the wheelwright and blacksmith at work. This has all come about following the success of winning the BBC2 Restoration Village competition in 2006. You can also enjoy a refreshments - hot or cold and a piece of locally made cake at the Centre, where there's seating indoors and outside.
