Museum of Island History - Free Entry
Heritage Open Day: The Museum of Island History will be open FREE of charge on Sunday 11th September (12noon - 2pm) to link with the Tour of Britain Cycle race visit to Newport.
Come and see the Newport exhibition and view the Springfield Trophy. While you wait for the Tour of Britain Cycle race to go through Newport pop into the Museum of Island History which will be open free of charge.
On display will be the Springfield Trophy which was won by Ryde cyclist Mr M.J.V. Webber in 1885. The Springfield Cycling Tournament was held in Massachusetts, U.S.A. Webber beat the American record of 20 miles in under an hour. An astounding feat considering he was riding a penny farthing bike.
The spectacular Springfield Trophy will be on display, if you cannot travel into Newport on this day - the museum will be also be open free of charge on Thursday 15 September (10am - 1pm).
