St Mary the Virgin, Walton Parish Church
Heritage Open Day: St Mary the Virgin;Walton Parish Church, the church tower, the churchyard and the Old Grammar school, (1614) are all Grade 2 listed and will be open for guided and self guided tours throughout the weekend. The history of St Mary the Virgin or Walton Parish Church goes back to before the 1100's, however it was mostly rebuilt following a direct hit in the Liverpool Blitz in 1941. It is the most peaceful place, surrounded by many magnificent London Plane trees, right at the heart of the busy community of Walton on the Hill. There is a Saxon cross thought to date to the 700's and font that has been in use for over a thousand years.
