Art at the Alex

Heritage Open Day: At a Rugby town centre site you will see traditional crafts and tools demonstrated by local artisans. The print studio and loom room are 'residents', but a rota of visiting artists show silversmithing, embroidery, woodcarving, spinning and more. This Victorian building (previously a pub/brewery) offers a garden and indoor spaces to observe Rugby artists and makers as they demonstrate their takes on heritage crafts. Some of the tools are rarely seen. For example, for Worldwide Spin in Public Day on 17th September we will have several spinning wheels, but also the much more ancient and impressive 'great wheel'! The huge multishaft floorstanding loom will be in action again for the first time in decades with simpler looms on hand to try for yourself.
