Historic Tour round Moorgate Cemetery
Heritage Open Day: The final resting place of Rotherham's Victorian Industrialists
The site has Grade II listed statue and Rotherham's 1st cemetery. Opened 1841 Moorgate Cemetery celebrates the lives and tells the stories of Rotherham's Iron and Steel barons who took advantage of Rotherham's situation close to the River Don and River Rother to develop dynasties Public duty was also important to these same businessmen many of whom were responsible for the incorporation of the borough under a Charter of Incorporation granted by Queen Victoria in 1871
The cemetery also contains Commonwealth War Graves from both world wars.
Volunteers will be hard at work clearing some of the graves.
