Mozart and Haydn

The Saint James’s Singers and Players and their conductor Julian Harris are delighted to present a programme of Mozart and Haydn on Saturday 1st October at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Warwick.
At the centre of the concert are two Mozart Masses. The well-known Coronation Mass is grand in style and rich in orchestration, with joyful choruses and sublime arias. The less well known Missa Solemnis was the last mass setting Mozart produced and is full of contrasts, from the solemn opening to bustling and energetic choruses and wonderful, almost operatic arias.
Haydn’s magnificent Te Deum is a shorter, very festive work. The absence of soloists means that the chorus sustains the momentum throughout, from the jubilant unison intonation of the opening to the exhilarating fugue and the blaze of the closing section.
The brilliant young soprano, Mollie Smith will perform Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate - easily the most famous of Mozart’s sacred settings for soprano. The piece is a challenge and a delight.
Ave Verum Corpus, the shortest piece in the programme and probably the best known, is dedicated to the memory of all those we have lost in the past months.
Saturday 1st October at 7.30
