The Jurassic Coast on Ceramics

Artist Janine Roper will be putting her latest ceramics and the drawings that inspired them in an exhibition called The Jurassic Coast on Ceramics at the Rotunda Gallery of the Lyme Regis Museum from 26 October until 4 December.
Having lived previously in Bath, Janine’s earlier ceramics carried designs that were taken from that city. Since moving to Bridport, she now spends a lot of time out and about walking Trixie, her Tibetan terrier, and so, not surprisingly, both the landscapes and seascapes of the Jurassic Coast have captured her imagination.
As she explains, “for this exhibition I made a new design based solely on Dorset scenes. I will be showing how I worked from these new drawings and ideas through to the finished design. All my ceramics are hand built, and I screen print onto them using oxides, mainly traditional cobalt blue. After the first firing, the pieces are glazed and re-fired. Then the magic happens, as the beautiful colours of the oxides shine through. Most of my work is then finished with extravagant gold lustre.”
Tues-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 10am-4pm, closed Mondays. Various admission prices.
