Stane Street Sinfonietta in A Celebration of Shelley

Stane Street Sinfonietta continue their series of concerts celebrating creatives connected to Sussex on Friday 4th November at St Mary’s Church, Horsham with an exploration of the work of Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the great Romantic poets and, arguably, one of Horsham’s most famous sons.

Established in 2018, Stane Street Sinfonietta is a vibrant and exciting professional chamber orchestra featuring musicians who work in Britain and internationally but were either born and bred or currently live and work in Sussex. The players bring a huge range of experience from Britain’s best symphony orchestras (including BBC Symphony, LPO, CBSO and RPO) and West End pit bands to Hollywood film soundtracks and top rock artists and bands including Oasis, Robbie Williams and Nick Cave. The orchestra’s mission is to bring world class music making to Sussex in an open and friendly atmosphere and to give much needed work to local professional musicians.

They’re joined by two other Sussex residents - Radio 4’s Chris Aldridge who’ll read some of Shelley’s most iconic poems, and Angharad Lyddon, a finalist in the Cardiff Singer of the World 2019, who’ll join the orchestra for Respighi’s 'Il Tramonto' an intensely beautiful and heart-breaking setting of Shelley’s 'The Sunset'. The orchestra also play music by Beethoven, Bridge, Walton, and Vaughan Williams plus John Hawkins’ 'Another Orpheus', inspired by words from Shelley’s poem 'Hellas'.
