Victorian Architects and Medieval Churches
An Evening talk presented by Dr Matt Godfrey, Historic Churches Support Officer, Diocese of Lincoln
The Victorian Period saw an increase in new church buildings and the restoration and often drastic rebuilding of some of Lincolnshire's medieval churches. Such changes hadn't been witnessed for at least 400 years and at the time caused some controversy and still do today.
I this illustrated talk Mathew Godfrey will examine if the arguments for and against such work by Victorian architects is fair and was this work necessary for the continued survival of the county's medieval churches
