The Italian Renaissance

Join us to explore the highlights of the Renaissance in Italy in our ten-week course of illustrated lectures.
When we think of the masterpieces of western art we often think of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael. In this course we will look at their achievements and discover more about their work – the Virgin of the Rocks or the Sistine Chapel. We will see wider aspects of their
careers and their influence.
In architecture we will consider the work of Bramante who brought a new precision to the
classical inheritance and made revolutionary designs for the rebuilding of St Peter’s.
Venice was a new and rising artistic centre at this period and saw the career of Giorgione and
the young Titian.
This is an exciting world of artistic discovery and revolution.
If you enjoy beautiful artworks and would like to know more about this fascinating period, you will be made very welcome at this friendly group. Madeline, our tutor, will guide us through the 1400's in Venice to appreciate the glorious art of the time.
Wednesday afternoons, 2-4 pm . £80 for a ten week, face-to-face course. It is not necessary to have attended previous courses. There will also be a Spring term to continue our studies of this fascinated period.
