Wellness Weekend: Wassail your way through the orchard's gifts, Sat 28
Bring family and friends, lovers of nature, of crumble pies and cider to make some noise, music and magic. Let's scare away bad spirits so there will be an epic crop of apples in autumn! You will be our special guest for the harvest when the season comes, have your baskets ready!
Join us on the last weekend of January in reviving the ancient tradition of Wassail where we’ll bless the orchard for the coming year's crop. Wassail is an ancient practice that involves processing to the orchards, making plenty of noise to scare off evil spirits and attracting good spirits with offerings of cider and toast (some say the toast is to attract a robin, which embodies the good spirits). Special guests will lead us through music, songs and rhythm of this special tradition. We’ll use natural materials, bells and coloured paper to dress ourselves up for the celebration and create wands for bringing good luck and chasing away the nasty spirits.
We’ll end the event with a glass of cider-based Wassail drink (or apple juice) after a secret recipe and toast for the apple harvest we’ll be enjoying in autumn.
