An exhibition of work based on personal identity by BTEC 540 Diploma students from Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College (part of Tyne Coast College)
In the wake of recent events such as Brexit, the removal of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol, taking the knee/Black Lives Matter and the growth of LGBT rights, students wanted to create a show as a reaction to the current ‘culture wars’ affecting the UK. With the worrying polarising of views about what the UK is and how it should be perceived they ask what defines our identity? Is it our cultural identity, nationality, social group, gender, religion, body, style, hobbies, or is it something else? The results show how inclusive, forward thinking and wide ranging youth culture is in North Tyneside, and also how comfortable they are with themselves.
