Talk: The Ackworth Hoard

Talk: The Ackworth Hoard

In 2011, a nationally significant hoard of gold and silver coins was discovered in Ackworth.

Buried in a locally made pot from Wrenthorpe, the hoard was made up of almost 600 gold and silver coins, and one gold ring.
The objects date from 1547 to 1646, and were buried and abandoned during the English Civil Wars.
Although many people had to leave treasure behind during these turbulent times, the Ackworth Hoard is particularly valuable, remaining one of the largest found in Yorkshire.

Who buried the coins, and why?

Join us on the 23rd February to hear some of our possible theories on this fascinating local insight into the English Civil Wars.
