Leadenhall Market’s annual pancake race

The City of London is once again celebrating Shrove Tuesday in style this year with the legendary Leadenhall Market pancake race.

Hosted by the Victorian market’s 18th century pub – The Lamb Tavern – the annual tradition is set to take place on Tuesday 21st February at 1pm, and will see teams take to the cobbles for a 20m flipping relay.

The golden frying pan trophy is polished and waiting for this year’s winning team’s name to be inscribed on it before being displayed behind The Lamb’s popular bar for the remainder of the year, while other prizes from Leadenhall Market’s boutique shops and restaurants are also up for grabs, along with free pancakes for all those taking part.

Teams will be encouraged to don bowler hats as a nod to Leadenhall Market’s iconic City status at this much-loved annual event, which is to be commentated by Market personality Charlie from London City shoeshine, who is back by popular demand.

Meanwhile, spectators can enjoy the 100 free pancakes made by Head Chef Sian at The Lamb from the safety of the side-lines.

Free to enter, teams of up to four people can take part and must register beforehand. Teams can do this by emailing: lambtavern@youngs.co.uk

Leadenhall Market’s boutique retailers, bars, restaurants and cafes will also be open for the event, welcoming celebrators and commiserators alike!
