Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub
Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub was founded in December 2009 and is a good way for people from all walks of life to hear from experts and discuss with them important issues that affect us all, while enjoying a pint. We meet every third Monday of the month at 7.30 pm. at Farm Road Sports and Social Club. No need to book. A voluntary donation at the meeting is welcome to cover expenses.
Our next meeting is on Monday February 20th at 7.30 pm. Our speaker is Susan Cartwright, Senior Lecturer in Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Sheffield, and the title of her presentation is 'The Dark Universe’.
'The earliest meaningful observation in cosmology was that the night sky is dark. At that time, darkness simply meant the absence of visible light. Centuries later, we now know that the Universe is dark in a much more fundamental sense - but the mystery still remains.'
