A Bunch of Amateurs - a hilarious comedy by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman

Banish the blues this March with SADC’s next production, “A Bunch of Amateurs” written by Ian Hislop (star of Have I Got News for You and Editor of Private Eye) and satirical cartoonist and scriptwriter, Nick Newman, and is described by WhatsOnStage as a “terrific comedy packed with killer comic dialogue…plenty of twists and turns”.

A Hollywood has-been flies to Britain to play the title role in King Lear at Stratford only to find that this is not the birthplace of the Bard but the sleepy Suffolk village of Stratford St John. And instead of being on stage with the likes of Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench, the cast is a motley crew of locals trying to save their theatre from developers. His enormous ego, unrealistic expectations and tantrums are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic thespians. As the acting worlds collide, he discovers some truths about himself and realises that he has no more talent than his amateur colleagues.

Sutton Amateur Dramatic Club (SADC) is a UK registered charity No.259484 and a community theatre group which performs in the Sutton, Carshalton, Banstead, Ewell and Epsom areas.
