Flowton in Flower

The tiny Suffolk village of Flowton - in the middle of nowhere but only a short distance from Ipswich - is opening its gardens and holding a colourful flower festival for the first time in four years.

There will be at least nine very different gardens to visit, and Flowton's wonderful 13th century church will host a spectacular flower festival themed around ‘Our church, our community.’ There will also be amazing displays of military vehicles, classic cars and vintage tractors around the village, and a local history exhibition. Visitors will be able to see the church’s extraordinary new weathervane featuring a mother and baby elephant. This was donated by a local resident who, as a child of the Raj in the 1920s, had a baby elephant called Daisy. It also remembers a travelling circus that overwintered in Flowton in the 1920s, whose elephant took a daily walk round the village!

Refreshments, lunches and cream teas will be available throughout the weekend at St Mary’s Church.

Proceeds will go to help maintain St Mary's Church, Flowton, and to FIND (Families in Need), the local Ipswich food and furniture bank which provides crucial support to many local families and individuals in need.
Flower festival and church open from 11.00 to 5.00; gardens open from 12.00 to 5.00 on both days. Entrance charge £5; under 16s free.
