The National Botanic Garden of Wales and South Wales Potters host a weekend celebrating clay with workshops, exhibitions and more.
Visitors to the National Botanic Garden of Wales will have a rare opportunity to meet some of South Wales’ most talented ceramicists this June, as 25 potters will be gathering to exhibit their work in the garden’s iconic Great Glasshouse.
Taking place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June, Ceramica Botanica is organised by South Wales Potters – a group of over 350 ceramicists from across South Wales – and offers a unique chance to see pottery pros from across the full stretch of South Wales as they gather for one weekend only.
With the most recent series of The Great Pottery Throwdown having once again thrown the spotlight on pottery, more people than ever are taking an interest in clay. Ceramica Botanica presents the perfect opportunity to explore all that the art of ceramics has to offer, as visiting potters share their skills and run drop-in workshops throughout the weekend. Visitors will be able to try their hand on a potter’s wheel, build clay figures by hand, and experiment with decoration techniques like sgraffito.
With the potters’ work ranging from gas-fired raku vases to delicate porcelain mugs, jewellery and more, there is much to see – and all pieces on display will also be available for purchase.
