Hunts Phil & St Ives Choral Society Summe Concert

How would we describe our next concert? Raucous, bold, tender, imposing, sensual, lively and controlled. 'Which is it?' you might ask, and the answer is all of them of course!
Carl Orff based this ‘scenic cantata’ on a set of poems from the 12-13th centuries. But don’t let that put you ‘orff’! (See what we did there?!) The content is anything but dull; most are spicy songs about gambling, drinking, dancing and…errr..the ‘lusty enjoyment of life’ so to speak!
Talking of spice, some of you will recognise the opening song O Fortuna, from the 1970s Old Spice adverts. Was that before your time? Look no further than X-Factor – the theme tune O Fortuna was named the UK's most widely-heard classical track since records began!
It’s a real hoot and to be honest it’s so bawdy that we are debating whether or not we should print a translation of the words in the concert programme….
We are joining forces with St Ives Choral Society to deliver what is sure to be a cracking performance and we’ve got some superb soloists to fill these huge roles.

In celebration of the composer's 80th birthday, The Hunts Phil are also performing Christopher Brown's 'To the Hills'. Christopher was at the helm of The Hunts Phil during its formation and early years and we are honoured that he will be attending this concert.
