Mildenhall 2K/5K River Run
Join us on a 5K route that explores the River Lark footpath from Jubilee Fields to Barton Mills, then loops through the village back to the start following part of the Barton Mills Millennium Walk. We’ll be meeting on Jubilee Fields where there’ll be a 2K run plus fun and games (a ball pond, play tent, swing ball, skittles etc), gazebos, and space for a picnic if you fancy bringing an apres-run lunch (we’ll be providing free cold drinks). The 2K route is around Jubilee Fields, so is ideal for children as the runners will be in sight at all times. Registration is from 10am. The 2K run starts at 11am, and the 5K at 11.30am.
There are a few minor roads to cross on the 5K route, and it uses a mixture of paved and off road paths. The 5K is suitable for all ages, including the use of single buggies, but because we are following the river any child under 16 years of age must always be kept within arm’s length of an adult. There‘ll be a medal for all finishers Of both the 2K and the 5K.
On the day keep an eye out not only for swans, ducks and geese, but also for kingfishers and storks, and maybe the occasional splash of a fish or even an otter. We are working with the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme (BFER) to demonstrate how our Breckland rivers are fabulous community asset under their “Healing Waters” banner. The BFER is a project working to conserve and celebrate the unique heritage and landscapes of the Norfolk and Suffolk Brecks. ‘Healing waters: Breathe the Brecks’ is a BFER project providing opportunities for communities to reconnect to their local landscapes and heritage through healthy outdoor activities. BFER is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to players of the National Lottery.
