A FREE Guided Walk to Look for Butterflies and day-flying moths.

Join the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation on a trip to Aston Upthorpe Downs: a chalk downland site with Juniper scrub and a rich flora and fauna; and extensive views of the surrounding countryside. Much of the downs are SSSI and open access land under the 'right to roam' legislation.

We will explore the downs for a range of spring butterflies including both grassland and scrub specialists. Target species: both Dingy Skipper and Grizzled Skipper, as well as Green Hairstreak.

The leader will remain on site to enjoy the views and his packed lunch. If you would like to join them and make this a bit more of a social occasion: please bring along your own packed lunch, a drink and perhaps a rug to sit on. We can chat about all things butterfly, day-flying moth, the work of UTB and how you might help out.

Accessibility - a fairly long walk along a sometimes rutted track. Then some quite steep slopes, often off-path, on the grassland.

Meet by the grain dryer half a mile along the narrow lane from the A417, opposite the turning to Aston Upthorpe village.
