Salford Choral Society: Feel the Spirit
Join us for an evening of upbeat and uplifting contemporary choral music, with a touch of jazz!
The centrepiece of our summer concert is John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit – seven vivid arrangements of well-loved American spirituals, including Deep River and When The Saints Go Marching In.
Adding to the upbeat mood is A Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott – an energetic re-writing of a short Latin mass with a jazz feel. It’s one of Chilcott’s most popular choral works and is guaranteed to have you tapping your toes. Listen out for some impressive improvisation from the choir’s talented pianist, Roddy Barrand.
The final piece in the programme is a stunning arrangement of Amazing Grace by composer and pianist Will Todd. This moving piece was performed at President Obama’s Inauguration Day prayer service in 2013.
Salford Choral Music Director Tom Newall said: “Following the choir’s triumphant performance of Brahms Requiem, we’ve taken a completely different direction for our summer concert.
“This is a fast-paced, modern programme that will put a spring in your step and a smile on your face. It’s perfect for someone who is new to choral music.
“The choir is really enjoying rehearsing these beautiful pieces and we can’t wait to share them with you!”
