The small village of Willingham, on the eastern slopes of Dartmoor was home to the Legend of the White Lady. It was said that, during the 17th Century, a young country girl, Janet Humphries. had been driven from her home by an evil landlord, one Richard Cabell of Buckfastleigh, and that she had died from exposure on the edge of the moor during a terrific thunderstorm. She was buried in the graveyard of the village church, St Andrews.
Cabell was buried in a tomb at Holy Trinity Church in Buckfastleigh and it is said that anyone who puts their fingers through the grill of his tomb will have them bitten off by the devil.
From that time to this, it was also said that anyone who caught sight of the White Lady would meet with a terrible fate.
Such was the case for Sir Thomas Bowden, who was found dead by a gate on the path leading from the Church out onto the open moor. He had told his family and friends that he had seen the White Lady. Was it a Ghost at work or was it something more human An investigator was tasked with solving the mystery and he gathers his suspects at the village pub, the Red Lion and calls on the other guests to help him. He is determined to get to the truth before evening is over.
