Join the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation on a trip to Aston Rowant NNR: a 'flagship' National Nature Reserve, managed by Natural England. It lies on the northwest scarp of the Chilterns Hills, overlooking the Vale of Oxford. The reserve supports one of the best examples of steep chalk downland in our area, with very special flora and some special butterflies.
We will explore the steep grassland slopes very carefully, looking for a range of high-summer butterflies and other wildlife. Target species: Dark Green Fritillary, Chalk Hill Blue, Adonis Blue and Silver-spotted Skipper.
Accessibility - steep, strenuous slopes, narrow paths and occasional rabbit holes.
Meet in the Beacon Hill car park.
