Temenos Chamber Choir, conducted by Patrick Craig, presents an evening of Madrigals, some sad, some light-hearted. This concert will mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Thomas Weelkes, but also featuring music by another Elizabethan composer, John Wilbye, and the Victorian madrigalist, Charles Wood. The choral music will be interspersed with Lute solos from Sara Salloum.
Madrigals were a popular form of home entertainment in Elizabethan times, and the choir will perform some fine examples, such as the melancholic Draw on sweet night by Wilbye, or Weelkes' lively Sing we at Pleasure. Perfect music for a summer's evening.
