Rural Ramble - Edale to Castleton Circular Guided Walk

A guide-led family-friendly circular walk following one of the classic Peak District walking routes, which was recently voted one of the nation's top 10 favourite walks.

Beginning in the village of Edale, the 10-mile walk starts with a fairly easy climb up to Hollin's Cross on the Great Ridge that separates the Vale of Edale from the Hope Valley. Having followed the ridge to Lose Hill, it then drops down to a lunch stop at the village of Castleton, home to the unique Blue John stone. Leaving Castleton, it passes two of the Blue John mines before beginning the climb back onto the Great Ridge via one of the country's most famous closed roads. Re-joining the ridge at the ancient hill fort of Mam Tor, it closes the circular part of the route with a return to Hollin's Cross, before dropping down off the ridge to finish back in Edale.

The walk begins and ends at the main car park in Edale. As this is also just a couple of minutes walk from Edale Railway Station, it means that this walk is easily accessible by public transport from both Sheffield and Manchester.

With around 2,600 feet of ascent, this is not a walk for the physically unprepared, but the reward for the climbs are some wonderful views across the Peak District landscape.

Group size on this walk is strictly limited, so online pre-booking is essential.
Start time: 10:30am.
Finish time: Approximately 4:30pm.
Price: £20.00 per person, discounted group and family rates available.
Well-behaved owners and their dogs welcome.
