King Street Gallery welcome member Julie Davies into the Spotlight Room with her wonderfully observed painting.
“I am a painter living and working in West Wales. I mostly work in oil on canvas or board to produce traditional style paintings of still lives and portraits, and I describe myself as a visual magpie - a painter of shiny things (and shiny people!). I approach both subjects in the same way, and think of my still lives as a 'portrait' of an object. I often like to juxtapose the wild and the human-made - imagining other creatures and their relationship with the things we make and use - what would they make of them I am also drawn to everyday objects which are imbued with a sense of nostalgia or longing, and like to be playful about the grouping of objects and creatures to suggest a narrative which the viewer is free to interpret.”
