A Soldier’s Woman

After two sold out shows, Amazonia Music Theatre is back at with A Soldier’s Woman; an explosive musical play exploring the lives of working-class Victorian women.

Tipping The Velvet meets Mother Courage.

This feminist romp set in the 1850s begins in a rural pub in the Forest of Dean.
Flora, A Soldier's Woman, is following a battalion squad headed for the Crimea. Runaway Maud is looking for her mother.
The two women share a pint and fall in love, but after a brutal attack, they are forced to flee, pursued by fear and guilt.

Through grotesque lodging houses and busy markets, Flora and Maud come to London and discover bohemian women at their best!
Dressed in a soldier's coat for disguise and protection, Flora finds a deeper identity.

These are raw and savage times; between saucy performers and the reality of the Crimean War, how can the two lovers escape their pasts

A fabulous, thought-provoking piece of theatre. Breaking down patriarchal imperialism and honouring the liberation of women, gender expression and sexual freedom.
Written, directed and composed by Jude Alderson, 'The punk Piaf', founder of feminist theatre/cabaret company and band Sadista Sisters.

Jude is the winner of the Peggy Ramsey Award and Year of the Artist award in 2000 for her large scale community piece A People’s Opera written for a cast of 65 and a string orchestra.
