Antidote Presents Alchemy at the Victoria Theatre Halifax
Antidote on Saturday 22 July presents ‘Alchemy’ with Aylin Leclaire (Germany), Matt Hulse (England) and The National Jazz Trio of Scotland (Scotland)
ALCHEMY presents the ongoing collaboration between Aylin Leclaire and Matt Hulse; a striking new combination of music, performance, theatre and film, that also represents the partnership between their twinned cities of Reading and Düsseldorf, a connection established in 1947. With her folky, dark pop electro sound and virtuoso voice, the German-Turkish musician Leclaire takes us on journeys into other worlds and dimensions, with atmospheric sounds, complex beats and experimental elements, resonant of Kate Bush, Björk and Jenny Hval. Matt Hulse is an artist working in film, music, performance, text and tap dance, with a strong record in collaboration, experimentation and community engagement.
Bill Wells returns to Antidote, this time with Aby Vulliamy in a duo iteration of The National Jazz Trio of Scotland. Promoting their latest album, the sixth in a series entitled ‘Standards’, this is the first that is genuinely a collection of actual jazz standards, chosen for their ethereal sadness, and rearranged to create an otherworldly air of loneliness. In the words of the lengthy opening track on their fourth album Standards Vol IV; ‘don’t be so quick to judge, it’s not what you think it is. Don’t make your mind up yet, it’s not how you think it looks.’
