Proscenium presents this exuberant comedy about four women from the Hull fish docks on a day trip to the races. Work, life and their love-lives are a hard slog for these women, but the opportunity to go to Ladies’ Day when Royal Ascot is relocated to York might just change their fortunes. Ditching work, and dressed up to the nines, they head off to the races for some fun. And if they are lucky they may just hit the jackpot!
Reviews for the original production:
“A superbly observed story in which relationships are put under huge stress before the feelgood-factor ending.” British Theatre Guide
“Whittington has carved a niche as an intelligent, popular writer with a particular ability to encapsulate the aspirations of unglamorous women who feel they deserve better … [her] characters are untouchable when they keep their white stilettos firmly on the ground.” The Guardian
“Has all the makings of a huge hit … with its Yorkshire heart and soul, it has all the warmth of a Calendar Girls or Full Monty.” Yorkshire Post
“Amanda Whittington's sporting romp Ladies' Day is as much fun as a day at the races and, arguably, better value for money.” The Stage
