Following their critically acclaimed production of The Libertine in 2019, Blank Canvas Theatre Company returns to the Playhouse with a lavish, original adaptation of a horror classic.
1897: Mina Murray's fiancé Jonathan Harker, an aspiring lawyer, has gone missing on a business trip to meet a mysterious Count in a remote part of Romania. Mina's concern grows when she learns that Jonathan's predecessor, the unfortunate Mr. Renfield, was immediately confined to an asylum upon his return exhibiting a strange and disturbing madness. Perplexed by Renfield's condition, his physician Dr. Seward seeks advice from his friend and mentor Abraham Van Helsing, a professor of 'Esoteric Science and Medicine'. Meanwhile, Mina's closest friend, the flamboyant Lady Lucy Westenra, tries to offer support but struggles with the expectations of her station and the travails of her own heart.
As events unfold, all are inexorably drawn into a web of ancient terror, tragic lost love and dark forces that ripple across an ocean of time.
Stylish, sensual and bloody, this all-new adaptation of Bram Stoker's Gothic masterpiece is a theatrical experience not to be missed this Halloween season.
