Our Fragile Planet & Humanities Guardianship
King Street gallery welcomes two of its members, Hilary Coole and Tanya Rotherfield, presenting a body of work focusing on our fragile planet and humanities need for guardianshop.
‘Now We Are Looking’ is a collection of works that result from a desire to highlight the damage that has been done to our beautiful but fragile world and encourage everyone to play their part to reduce the ravaging effects caused by our consumerist society.
While Hilary and Tanya are working to the same ends They differ in their working methods and inspiration. Hilary Coole is a ceramicist whose body of work centres around the image of mother earth and her need of our help in healing our planet together from its increasingly fragile state to her former glory. Tanya Rotherfield uses print making and drawing to highlight her frustrations at the destructiveness of greed and the need for humanity to acknowledge its guardianship responsibilities for the safe keeping of the planet.
If the 8 billion people of the world were to follow the sentiments of the serenity prayer we could make a difference. “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference……”
A wonderful show with insightful sentiments about a subject very much in the forefront of all our thoughts at the present time and looking towards the future.
